Abstract:Aim To analyze the effect of the oxidative balance score (OBS) on vascular endothelial function and to provide empirical evidence for developing targeted interventions and preventing vascular endothelial dysfunction. Methods This study selected permanent Han residents of Shunyi District, Beijing as the research subjects. OBS of the study population was calculated using literature review, questionnaire survey, and high-performance liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry. Vascular endothelial morphology and functional status were assessed using Vivid-7 color Doppler ultrasound, UNEX EF vascular endothelial function testing technology, and ELISA. Independent samples t-test, one-way analysis of variance, chi-square test, and multivariate Logistic regression analysis were used to explore the relationship between OBS and vascular endothelial function indicators. Results As OBS level increased, the content of 8-iso-prostaglandin F2α (FIP) decreased. FIP levels in OBS group 2 and 3 were significantly lower than those in OBS group 1 (P<0.01). The risk of high FIP expression was significantly reduced in OBS group 2 and 3 (P<0.01). Flow-mediated dilation (FMD) and serum nitric oxide/endothelin-1 (NO/ET-1) ratio were significantly lower in the high-FIP group than in the low-FIP group (P<0.05). Carotid intima-media thickness (CIMT) and serum ET-1 levels were significantly higher in the high-FIP group than in the low-FIP group (P<0.01). The risk of vascular endothelial dysfunction was significantly lower in the low-FIP group than in the high-FIP group (P<0.05). ET-1 and endothelial nitric oxide synthase (eNOS) levels in OBS group 3 were significantly lower than those in groups 1 and 2 (P<0.01), while the NO/ET-1 ratio in OBS group 3 was significantly higher than that in groups 1 and 2 (P<0.01). CIMT progressively decreased with increasing OBS values, CIMT in OBS group 3 was significantly lower than that in the OBS group 1 (P<0.01), and the incidence of abnormally thickened CIMT (CIMT >1.00 mm) was significantly reduced (P<0.01). FMD showed an increasing trend with rising OBS value, FMD in OBS group 3 was significantly higher than that in OBS group 1 (P<0.05), and the incidence of abnormally reduced FMD (FMD<6%) was also significantly reduced (P<0.01). Conclusion Elevated OBS can effectively reduce systemic oxidative stress levels and significantly improve vascular endothelial morphology and physiological function.
